ALBANIA'S REPORT TO THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE AT THE UN GENEVA

On March 11-12, 2025, Albania reported to the Human Rights Committee in United Nations Geneva on the implementation of the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights during the period 2021-2025.

The International Police Organization IPO Delegation composed of the Executive President - CEO Dr. Mareglen Tomori and Mr. Imet Cafleshi President of IPO Section Switzerland and Permanent Representative of IPO Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, closely observed Albania’s 2-day reporting to the Human Rights Commission on the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights that took place at Palais Wilson, UN Geneva.


The Albanian delegation was represented by experts in the field, in the state administration according to the line ministries.

This reporting of Albania in front of the UN Human Rights Commission reflects the continuous efforts of Albanian institutions to improve the protection of civil and political rights.


In this report among others, several positive elements that stand out are highlighted, such as:

• The new National Strategy for Migration 2024-2030, which aims to strengthen the international protection system and ensure the rights of asylum seekers and refugees.

• Improving the infrastructure for the reception and accommodation of migrants, in accordance with international standards.

• Resolving statelessness cases, ensuring that there are currently no stateless individuals in Albania.

• ​​Strengthening the rights of those arrested, by providing information in different languages ​​about their rights, especially for children and victims of violence.

• Establishing a new structure in the State Police for the fight against cybercrime, an important step to face new security challenges.


These developments demonstrate a commitment to strengthening institutions and complying with international human rights standards.


IPO, as an accredited organization with Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC of the United Nations, encourages Albania to implement the recommendations given to build a safer and more just society and remains available to cooperate with the Albanian authorities and international partners to strengthen security and human rights in the country.
