SECOND INTER-INSTITUTIONAL CONFERENCE "PREVENTION OF DRUG USE BY YOUNG PEOPLE"

The International Police Organization IPO, in partnership with law enforcement and justice institutions, as with other educational institutions, unites together psychologists, toxicologists, and representatives of the education and health sector to address a problem of society that continues to grow.
The Second Interinstitutional Conference on "Prevention of Drug Use by The Youth", was organized by the IPO in partnership with the Italian Association "Dico No Alla Droga", Center of the Prevention of Juvenile and Youth Crime -QPKMR, the State Agency for the Rights and Protection of the Child - ASHDMF, the General Directorate of the Albanian State Police - DPPSH, General Directorate of Prisons - DPB, Internal Control Service in the Prisons System - SHKBB, and the National Chamber of Mediation -DHKN, on September 26, 2024, at the Mondial Hotel in Tirana, with the aim of increasing institutional capacities and civic education on drug issues and other subjects narcotics.
The main purpose of the conference was to address an important problem affecting the health and well-being of youth. In this context, various aspects related to the drug use prevention, focusing on education and institutional capacity building. The participants had the opportunity to listen to experts from different fields and to engage in constructive discussions on the most effective strategies to meet this challenge.
This event helps to create a cooperation platform between institutions, experts, and organizations working to protect young people from the negative effects of drugs.
Statistics in Albania show that the use of various substances, including marijuana
and synthetic substances, has increased significantly.
This growth has profound consequences, not only for the health of young people but also for the stability of our society. Drug use often leads in involvement in other crimes, making this a multifaceted problem that requires an approach coordinated.
Discussions initially focused on identifying the causes that lead young people to use
of drugs. Experts emphasized the impact of socio-economic factors and relationships
family, defining this information as essential to understand the dynamics that lead to this
phenomenon. Another important aspect is the sharing of successful strategies for
prevention of drug use.
The participants discussed the educational programs and awareness campaigns that have shown positive results in other countries, and emphasized the importance of creating positive activities for young people, which help in the formation of character and improving self-esteem.
The role of parents and teachers was identified as a key factor. Education sector experts emphasized the need to strengthen communication and cooperation between parents and schools. Also, the Toxicologist Expert present at the panel of experts at the conference, emphasized the establishment of multidisciplinary rehabilitation centers.
Psychologists also emphasized support and intervention psycho-social problems of drug users and their families.
Discussions on treatments and rehabilitation are emotionally charged, emphasizing that it is vital to create a continuous support system for young people facing this challenge.
How can we do this?
First, it is important to strengthen cooperation between institutions. An approach
interdisciplinary is essential to address the problem effectively. the police, social services, and justice institutions must work together to help those who are at risk and who are more likely to be involved in the use of narcotics and various drugs.
Second, we must promote education and awareness in schools and communities.
Information on the dangers of drugs and the consequences of involvement in organized crime is essential to prevent drug use. We need to create programs that provide support and guidance for young people, showing them that there are other options to build a future better. It is necessary to strengthen the legislation that prohibits drug trafficking and involvement in criminal groups. Laws must be clear and effective, sending a strong message that our society will not tolerate crime and drug use.
